Due to an unprecedented turn of events, Co-Opera Co. has had to make the difficult decision to postpone the 2015 Summer Development Programme. For the first time in our seven-year history we have not had enough uptake for places on the course. In all previous years we have had the opposite problem of having to turn away a huge stack of applications, but clearly the current atmosphere of austerity has hit young singers hard.
Naturally, we are all disappointed not to be going ahead this year, as all elements of our integrated training programme, centred around Britten's Peter Grimes, were in place and we are so grateful to all the associate artists who had agreed to take part in coaching, mentoring, leading workshops and masterclasses – not least John Graham-Hall, who had agreed to take the title role in our end-of-programme production and mentor throughout.
Nonetheless, we want to make it clear that while the programme may have been postponed until next year, Co-Opera-Co. is continuing with its exciting administrative plans to consolidate as a company, explore partnerships and raise funds so that we can provide fixed bursaries and other financial assistance to emerging artists taking part in our programmes in the future.
