Murray Hipkin, Vocal coach / Conductor
Murray Hipkin has been a member of the Music Staff of English National Opera for most of his career and specialises in coaching opera and music theatre in English. For ENO he has conducted The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Gondoliers and Kismet, and elsewhere, La bohème (Surrey Opera, Opera Box), Salieri’s Falstaff, Haydn La vera costanza, Mozart Apollo and Hyacinth and Gluck Il Cinesi (Bampton Classical Opera) . His MD work includes Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd at Shawford Mill, Frome and over 170 performances of The Sound of Music at the London Palladium. Other freelance work has included assisting the composer John Adams and conducting on location for the award-winning Channel 4 film The Death of Klinghoffer, two projects with Björk including Pierrot Lunaire at the Verbier Festival and community and education projects with ENO Baylis. Since 2003 he has been Musical Director of the North London Chorus.
