Martin studied physics at Manchester University and Theatre Arts at Bretton Hall College. For Opera Holland Park Martin has directed Un Ballo in Maschera, La Gioconda, l’Amore dei Tre Re, The Queen of Spades, Andrea Chenier, Le Nozze di Figaro, Stiffelio and Don Giovanni. Other recent productions include Mitridate, Re di Ponto for Classical Opera Company at Sadler’s Wells and the Buxton Festival, and The King Goes Forth to France for GSMD. For Mid Wales Opera La Bohème, Rigoletto and La Traviata; BYO Flight, Cosi fan tutte, A Midsummer Night’s Dream; GSMD La Vie Parisienne, Capriccio, the British premiere of Dove’s The Little Green Swallow, The Rape of Lucretia, Maskarade, Postcard from Morocco, The Beggar’s Opera, Weill-Krenek-Ullmann Triple Bill, the UK premiere of The Aspern Papers (RPS Award nominee); for Garden Opera La Bohème, Cosi fan tutte, Cenerentola, Don Giovanni, Carmen, The Barber of Seville amongst many others; Essential Scottish Opera; the premiere of Spirit Child for Lontano; Carmen, The Mikado Penang State Festival; RPS award-winning premiere of On London Fields with HMDT; RSAMD Cendrillon, Falstaff, Le Nozze di Figaro, l’Heure Espagnol/Gianni Schicchi with the orchestra of Scottish Opera at The Theatre Royal for the RSAMD Theatre work includes Wallace and Gromit: Alive on Stage on tour and the West End; Dog in a Manger at Edinburgh and London as well as extensive work with internationally acclaimed theatre company Cheek by Jowl. Future plans include Francesca di Rimini for OHP ; Romeo et Juliette for Operosa in Bulgaria, and a devised opera based on The Taming of the Shrew for Xynix Opera, the Netherlands.
